DAVE WEST

Dave West was born in 1972 in Penclawdd, South Wales and is now settled in Balbriggan, Ireland. He discovered an early aptitude for art and went on to study at Carmarthenshire College of Art. Having worked for a number of years in the field of graphic design he is now a full time painter.

His paintings are mainly landscape based ­ taking subject matter from both the urban and rural landscape. “I find that I return time and again to the same subjects for inspiration ­ Ireland's Bogs, my own back garden, but most of all the coastline ­ I have always lived close to the sea and now living within a stone's throw of the sea in North County Dublin, I find constant inspiration from it. The landscape is constantly changing and evolving as is my experience and technique of painting. Every time I return to a subject there is more to be explored.”

I have recently noticed a shift in my work: from painting scenes to painting ‘paintings’. I find that the subject is now taking a secondary role to the application of paint.

Dave has exhibited widely throughout Ireland and the UK including 4 recent solo exhibitions. He was recently elected a member of the United Arts Club. His work is well represented in numerous private and corporate collections including Texaco, BP, Fingal County Council, Dublin Chamber of Commerce and the ESB.
