His paintings are mainly landscape based – taking subject matter from both the urban and rural landscape. “I find that I return time and again to the same subjects for inspiration – Ireland's Bogs, my own back garden, but most of all the coastline – I have always lived close to the sea and now living within a stone's throw of the sea in North County Dublin, I find constant inspiration from it. The landscape is constantly changing and evolving as is my experience and technique of painting. Every time I return to a subject there is more to be explored.”
I have recently noticed a shift in my work: from painting scenes to painting ‘paintings’. I find that the subject is now taking a secondary role to the application of paint.
